Delete your Kharchapatra account

You can permanently delete your Kharchapatra account at any time. This page explains how to start the deletion, what data is erased, and what is retained — and for how long.

Option 1 — Delete from inside the app

  1. Open the Kharchapatra app on your phone or visit web.kharchapatra.com.
  2. Sign in to the account you want to delete.
  3. Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account.
  4. Read the confirmation prompt and confirm. The deletion request is filed immediately.

Option 2 — Email us if you can't access your account

If you've lost access to your account or can't use the app for any reason, send a deletion request from the email address you registered with to parjanya57@gmail.com.

Subject: Kharchapatra account deletion. Include the email address registered with the account. We will verify ownership and confirm the deletion within five working days.

What gets deleted

Once your request is processed, we permanently erase the following from our active systems within 30 days:

  • Your profile (name, email address, hashed password)
  • Authentication tokens and Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens
  • All accounts you've added (bank, wallet, cash)
  • All transactions and their associated metadata
  • Categories, budgets, recurring rules, and goals
  • Uploaded statement files (CSV, PDF, Excel)
  • Notification preferences and other in-app settings
  • Sync history and device identifiers

What is retained

  • Encrypted backups — your data persists in rolling backup snapshots and is purged on a 90-day cycle. We do not restore deleted accounts from backup.
  • Anonymized service logs — request logs that no longer contain personally identifiable information may be retained for up to 12 months for security and reliability analysis.
  • Records required by law — if Nepali law or a valid legal process requires us to retain specific information (for example, certain transaction-related records under tax or anti-fraud regulations), we will keep only what is required for the legally mandated period and nothing more.

Can a deleted account be restored?

No. Once the deletion is processed it is permanent. If you want to use Kharchapatra again, register a new account — you'll need to re-add your accounts and (optionally) re-import your statements.
